For generations, foolhardy daredevils have made the risky leap into Whiskeytown Lake from the Highway 299 Whiskey Creek Bridge, but it’s never been legal and it’s never been wise. Caltrans has installed barrier systems to prevent people from making the jumps, but they’ve been bypassed by vandalism. That can cost Hundreds of Thousands of taxpayer Dollars to repair, and can result in felony charges. Jumping from the bridge can bring a fine of more than $400, besides risking a life or limb.
