Anonymous Contractors Send Open Letter To OSHA Critical Of Safety Inspectors

An anonymous group of Northern California roofing contractors feels they’re being unfairly targeted by state workplace safety inspectors. An open letter is unsigned because they fear backlash from regulators. It addresses OSHA, saying the contractors are concerned about the safety of their workers but the current enforcement approach is an undue burden that’s costly to their businesses and has caused many to shut down. One primary complaint is mandatory rope systems that are unnecessary on some pitches and conditions, and can cause more hazards such as tripping and entanglement. Contractors are asking that OSHA re-evaluate some of its rules and enforcement policies and trust in the skilled labor of roofing professionals.
