Shasta County Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis must destroy ballots from the November 2024 election, but apparently has not done so yet. The issue came up during Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. It had been a closed session item but the board decided to discuss it publicly. Ballots are only supposed to be retained for 22 months, but someone named Arne List had tried to get a court order delaying that action. County Attorney Joseph Larmour said Tuesday that the restraining order had been denied. The November 2024 election was very problematic due to ink overspray on the ballots that couldn’t be read properly by the recently acquired voting machines.
Meanwhile, California Secretary of State Shirley Weber says her office is closely monitoring election activities in Shasta County. She made those assurances during a video conference Tuesday night.
