Council Members Unanimously Oppose Becoming “Northern California Data Center Hub”

A recommendation by Circle 6 Consulting that Redding Position itself as a “Northern California Data Center Hub” was a non-starter at Tuesday night’s city council meeting. The head of the firm said there was a good business case for offering a home to data centers at the Stillwater Industrial Park, but he acknowledged that it needs to be reconciled with the will of the community. The report had forecasted Hundreds of Millions of Dollars of capital investment and ongoing benefits to the city in the form of property taxes and utility charges. The council members were unanimously in opposition to the idea, as was the great majority of the public gathered in the chambers. The council will discuss other aspects of the $300,000 efficiency study at a meeting in the near future.
