ICE Arrests Convicted Sex Offender In Redding

A registered sex offender has apparently been arrested in Shasta County by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Kao Wang Saechao was sentenced in 2001 to 6 years in state prison after pleading guilty to lewd and lascivious acts against a child under 14-years-old. Upon release from prison, a judge ordered him to be deported back to Laos, but he apparently never left. In a statement this week, ICE says it apprehended Saechao last month. Although the statement implies that child predators will be deported, there’s no specific information about the status of Saechao. The statement comes on the heels of a protest in Redding that brought out about a hundred people opposing an ICE arrest of a Honduran man in the country illegally, who apparently has no criminal record.
