A vegetation fire was started accidentally in north Redding Wednesday afternoon. At 2:23, Redding Fire Department was called to College View Drive at Mercy Oaks Drive, the location of Shasta Senior Nutrition and Connected Living. It was in the “Mutual Threat Zone” that surrounds the city so CalFire was also dispatched. The first engine crew arrived to find about an acre of grass burning with a moderate rate of spread. About 20 minutes later the fire was contained to 3 acres. It was apparently caused by a landscaper mowing the dry grass.
