Shasta County’s unemployment rate in August was 5.3%, which was exactly the same as July and down 2-tenth of a percentage point from August of last year. There are 300 more people in the labor force compared to last year and 1,200 more compared to July. There were very large year-over gains in government education jobs, and minor losses were seen in financial activities and business services. Last month’s jobless rate in Tehama County was 6.2%. It was 7.3% in Siskiyou County and 5.5% in Trinity County. The statewide rate was 5.4%, and it was 4.3% nationally.
