The identities are now available of five people killed last Saturday night in a head-on crash on the highway through Whiskeytown. A Honda Civic was westbound on Highway 299 near the Whiskey Creek Bridge when it crossed over the double-yellow center line of the highway into the path of a 2007 Toyota Prius. Both cars were soon engulfed in flames. 52-year-old Sharlene Anna Black of Happy Valley was declared dead at the scene, while 19-year-old Mason David Baker of Redding died after arriving at a hospital. They’ve both been identified by the Shasta County Coroners Office. The only survivor of the crash was Sharlene’s son, 19-year-old Charles Black, who is apparently still in critical condition. The other three who died have been identified in an obituary as 31-year-old April Star Sylvia Moon and her two young sons, 5-year-old Little Eagle Moon and 4-year-old Hawk Mowgli Moon. April was a member of the Yurok Fire Department and a Yurok native. A procession of fire engines will leave from the Hoopa Fire Station at 9 O’clock Saturday morning and travel to Weitchpec, where April was born and raised.
