Shasta County’s lone case so far of West Nile Virus is apparently a Wisconsin man. According to a GoFundMe story seeking funds for his family to travel to Redding to be with him, the man was hiking at Lassen Park when he collapsed and was airlifted to a Redding hospital. After several days, doctors diagnosed the illness as Meningitis caused by West Nile Virus. Serious illness from West Nile Virus is relatively rare.
