Supervisors Vote To Apply For Federal “Opportunity Zone” Tax Incentives

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors has voted to apply for federal designations of “Opportunity Zones” in the Burney area and in the south part of the county. The zones get tax incentives for 10 years for private industrial investment. The zones are recommended by the Governor of each state and the Federal Treasury Department makes the final decision. The Burney Zone would help small businesses occupy some of the 25 vacant buildings along Main Street. The South County tract has more than $700 Million worth of potential large scale industrial development.
