Another appointment has been missed for the legally-required shredding of election materials. State and federal law require that ballots be preserved for 22 months and then destroyed. For the materials from the November 2024 election, that date was September 5th. Following the denial of a court order requested by a southern California man, Shasta County Registrar Clint Curtis was reminded that the deed had to be done as soon as possible. Curtis said he had scheduled it with a local shredding service on September 11th, but it didn’t happen. He then said it was scheduled for September 30th, but the County CEO’s office says it still hasn’t been done. The Deputy CEO says Curtis has failed in his statutory responsibility and his decisions are not condoned by the County. The California Secretary of State also sent a letter warning Curtis he must comply and to notify her office when the destruction is complete.
