The Shasta County Bomb Team was called out for an improvised explosive device Wednesday. Shortly before 9AM a CHP Officer responded to the Montgomery Creek Post Office, then called the Bomb Squad while evacuating the post office and surrounding area. The Montgomery Creek School and nearby residents were told to shelter in place. The bomb apparently had come from Burney, and someone had unknowingly transported it to Montgomery Creek, then discovered it, reported it, and placed it in the post office parking lot. No direct threat was intended, according to deputies. The bomb team arrived around Noon and rendered the device safe.
