A man died after a crash east of Burney Tuesday morning. At 8:22AM a 2016 Jeep Patriot was eastbound on Highway 299 a little east of Highway 89 when it drifted off the pavement, collided with a tree and rolled over onto its roof. The driver, a 31-year-old man from McArthur, was trapped inside. Other people stopped and pulled the man from the Jeep, which had caught fire and was soon engulfed in flames. The driver was transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding but later died of his injuries. The CHP is investigating and have said they don’t suspect drugs or alcohol.
