Supervisors Vote For More Discussions On Mobile Home Park Rent Control Ordinance

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors had a discussion Tuesday about a possible mobile home park rent control ordinance. The discussion began weeks ago when multiple residents of parks owned by Harmony Communities raised alarms about a rent increase. Harmony mitigated the rent boost by offering a $300 monthly credit to their tenants. It’s been recognized that mobile homes are different than other homes because they’re owned but sitting on rented spaces. Unlike other home renters, moving is an expensive proposition. A Tehama County Supervisor explained the ordinance that exists in his county, which was triggered by a situation apparently far more egregious than anything happening in Shasta County. The board voted to revisit the issue in a month.
