Redding Police say they’ve had a lot of problems with homeless and drug-addicted clients of a transitional housing program. New Life Discovery Project uses motels in Downtown Redding and North Market Street to house participants. The RPD says recent incidents include overdoses, including a fatal one, violent encounters including threats against officers and use-of-force incidents, drug-related arrests, issues with out-of-county warrants and parolees, property crimes and a child welfare investigation of a newborn who tested positive for Fentanyl. The police department say the incidents have been occupying an inordinate amount of time for busy officers.
