Update: Retired Police Captain Among The 5 Killed In Crash On Interstate 5

One of the five people killed in a crash on Interstate Five at the south edge of Corning Saturday afternoon was a retired San Jose Police Officer, according to a San Jose Police Department social media post. At 12:45PM Saturday, a 2003 Infiniti was northbound when, for reasons unknown, it crossed the center divider and collided head-on with a southbound 2016 Dodge Ram pickup towing a 5th wheel travel trailer. The retired Captain, 52-year-old Randy Schriefer, was apparently the man behind the wheel of the pickup and the passenger is believed to have been his wife, 48-year-old Kelly Schriefer. He was killed in the collision and she was airlifted to a hospital with major injuries. None of the four occupants of the Infiniti were seatbelted and all of them were ejected and killed, including an 8-year-old girl. Their names have not been released. Schriefer had served the San Jose Police Department for 23 years.
