Update: Trucker Arrested After Knowingly Driving On Flat Tire That Sparked Fire

A trucker has been arrested for driving on a flat tire and causing a fire at the northern edge of Shasta County. At 4:30AM last Friday, Cal-Fire crews were called to Interstate 5 near Sweetbriar Avenue in Castella. They found a big rig and trailer ablaze, and it quickly became fully engulfed. Investigators say the driver, 65-year-old Dion Connoyer of Georgia, told them he had knowingly driven with a flat tire for more than 70 miles, only stopping when he noticed his trailer catching fire. Connoyer was booked into jail on a felony count of recklessly causing a fire to forestlands. He’s still in jail awaiting $25,000 bail.
