Odor Of Cannabis Leads Deputies To U-Haul With Over 2 Tons Of Pot

A man in Corning was busted for hauling more than a Ton of Cannabis. Just before 8 O’clock Sunday night, Corning Police Officers were standing in a parking lot off County Road 99-W when a U-haul box van pulled in the lot and drove past them. The officers were overtaken by the strong odor of Cannabis, so they followed the truck until it parked and asked the driver what he was carrying. Kyle Raymond Chidester said he didn’t know what was in the cargo area, he was just helping a friend move. Officers determined that Chidester’s name was attached to the truck’s lease, and eventually he allegedly consented to a search and opened the rear door. Inside were 106 large trash bags containing different varieties of Cannabis with a total weight of 2,360 Pounds. Chidester was booked into jail for transporting Marijuana without the required state licenses.
