They were ready to cook Tuesday when a huge volume of vegetable oil spilled on the hot asphalt of Interstate Five in Corning. Shortly before 2 O’clock a northbound big rig tanker truck hauling cooking oil overturned near the Liberal Avenue exit. The tanker came to rest on its side, hemorrhaging its slick load all over the freeway. All traffic stopped at first and then just the fast lane remained closed for an extended time while the considerable mess was cleaned up. The driver was hospitalized with unspecified injuries.
