A 3,000 acre fire in the Oroville area has forced the evacuation of around 13,000 people. The Thompson Fire is burning off Cherokee Road and Thompson Flat Road. There’s no containment. The city of 20,000 people declared a state of emergency Tuesday night. KCRA-TV reported at least several homes have been destroyed. The governor’s office announced late Tuesday that federal funding had been approved to help with firefighting efforts. Gov. Gavin Newsom this week activated the State Operations Center to coordinate California’s response, dispatch mutual aid and support communities as they respond to threats of wildfire and excessive heat.
A vegetation fire broke out Tuesday off Quail Creek Drive in the Anderson area. It was reported just after 3:30PM as having a moderate rate of spread. Cal-Fire/Shasta County Fire stopped the fire at around 2 acres. Investigators say it was caused by the use of a tractor.
