FAA Wont Fund Runway Rehabilitation Project At Redding Regional Airport

The City of Redding has addressed some difficulties faced by Redding Regional Airport. A federally funded runway rehabilitation project was supposed to be underway with various improvements, but it hit a major snag when the Federal Aviation Administration informed the city that it cannot provide the funding due to several high priority projects. Alternatives are being explored.

Another concern is the decision by Avelo Airlines to discontinue its presence in Redding, thus ending the low cost flights to and from Burbank. No ground handler was able to meet Avelo’s budget demands. There’s still United Airlines service to Los Angeles and San Francisco, and Alaska Airlines service to Seattle.

The city is trying to fill the position of Airport Manager. A consulting firm is reviewing 23 qualified applicants who are in the second round of the interview process.
