Crews Remove Over 100 Tons Of Rubbish From North Redding Homeless Camps

A large area in North Redding populated by homeless camps was cleared out last week. The wooded lost lane area west of North Market Street and south of Masonic Avenue has long been the scene of runaway warming and cooking fires. The land is owned by developer Allen Ansari, who has delayed a planned subdivision and had to renew permits multiple times. Redding Police say that Ansari bore the cost of last week’s operation. More than 100 Tons of trash and other material was hauled out. The Redding Police Crisis Intervention Response Team placed 18 homeless people from the camps into temporary housing. A couple of trespassing arrests were made and dozens of other homeless people simply moved on to find another place to hunker down. Redding Police Captain Brian Cole tells us another area that will be targeted by the clean up crew is Linden Canyon, which runs along the bottom of the hill below Mercy Medical Center.
