10th Measles Case Reported In Shasta County

Shasta County is apparently not quite finished with its Measles outbreak. One more case has been confirmed by Shasta County Public Health, bringing the total to ten so far. The new case is a patient under the age of 18, and the patient is already passed the 8 day infectious period, so the risk to the community is believed to be low. No new exposure sites have been identified and all the previously named sites are now considered inactive. This is considered a “breakthrough case” because the patient had received one MMR Vaccine but is among the 7% of exposed people who got Measles anyway. The vaccine is 93% effective with one dose and 97% effective with two doses. Anyone showing symptoms should call Public Health at 225-5591. There a lot of information available through link on the KQMS Facebook Page. The highly contagious disease had been considered eliminated from this country due to nearly universal vaccination of children, but recent anti-vaccination trends have led to a resurgence. Vaccination status can be checked at myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov.
