18-Month Old Child Rescued After Domestic Violence Incident In Siskiyou County

An 18-month child has been returned to its mother following a domestic incident in Mount Shasta. On January 2nd at about 10:30PM, the Mount Shasta Police Department was called to a verbal dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend. During the incident, the male suspect, 26-year-old Joshua Thomas Santomauro, took the victim’s vehicle without permission while their 18-month-old child was inside. According to police the suspect made statements indicating he intended to crash the vehicle into a tree and kill himself with the child in the car. An AMBER Alert was initiated. The California Highway Patrol obtained GPS data from the vehicle’s onboard system, which located the suspect at the Pilot Gas Station in Weed. Officers from the Weed Police Department responded to the location, where the suspect was taken into custody. He was reported to be uncooperative during contact and throughout the booking process resulting in additional charges.
