Here’s a word to the wise: artificial intelligence programs don’t climb mountains. Three novice climbers from Roseville made it to the top of Mount Shasta at around 7 O’clock Sunday evening, and then had to make the descent in the dark, wandering off their intended route into the Mud Creek Canyon. They were relying on directions from a cell phone, which went dead. One of them fell and hurt his knee, which slowed them all down. They were eventually rescued by climbing rangers and Siskiyou County Search and Rescue. They said they had plotted their route and chose what to pack with Google Gemni AI., which gave them bad advice about everything, including how much time it takes to go up the mountain and back.
