A young child drowned at Lake Shasta Monday. At 11:22AM multiple agencies rushed to Turntable Bay. A 5-year-old had gone into the water before the parents could equip the child with a life vest, and he could not be found. Personnel from Cal Fire, the U.S. Forest Service, CHP Air Operations and the Sheriff’s Boating Safety Unit arrived too late. The Shasta County Dive Team recovered the little boy’s body from beneath the murky waters at 12:33PM. Officials want to remind parents that Lake Shasta has steep banks and poor underwater visibility, making rescue very difficult once someone slips beneath the surface.
