An east Redding bar that’s been closed since 2012 has burned again. At 6:30 Monday morning Redding Fire Department was dispatched to the old Bert & Ernie’s on Industrial Street. They found it heavily involved in fire at the rear of the structure. Firefighters had to make a defensive attack because the roof had partially collapsed when the building burned in May. After the flames were knocked down, crews were able to enter and completely extinguish the flames. The fire in May was determined to be started by trespassers squatting in the abandoned building. Surveillance video from Monday morning showed multiple people leaving the building when the fire started. The structure, valued at $75,000, was a total loss.
