Annual Homeless Count Done In Redding On Tuesday

The annual headcount of homeless people known as the “Point in Time Count” was done Tuesday by the Nor-Cal Continuum of Care. The effort tries to count everyone living on the streets, under bridges and in the bushes. The information is used by federal housing officials to allocate funding for every county in the U.S. This year officials tried something new. They offered services such as warm meals, coats and gift cards to homeless people who showed up at the New Life Discovery Project Community Center on Placer Street. Each person contacted, either at the center or on the streets, was asked to complete a brief confidential survey.
