The Mount Shasta and Weed Police Departments have released video footage from cameras worn by their officers during a roadside incident in March that resulted in the death of a man they had pulled over. On March 21st, a Weed Police Officer did a traffic stop on a car on Northbound Interstate 5 for excessive window tint, an unsafe lane change and other violations. They stopped on the North Weed Offramp and after talking to the driver, the officer requested a K9 to do a drug sniff. A Mount Shasta Police Officer responded, the dog indicated positively, and the car was searched. The Weed Officer reported finding a substantial quantity of Methamphetamine hidden in a stereo speaker box. The driver was sitting in front of the Weed Police vehicle during the search, and when he was approached he reportedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officer. Both officers then fired their guns and struck the man. He was transported to Mercy Mount Shasta, where he later died. One of the officers sustained a minor injury when he fell during the incident. The CHP is still conducting the investigation, but the name of the dead man is still unavailable. The body camera footage can be seen through a link on the KQMS Facebook Page.
