Bull Sales Total $1.6 Million At 83rd Annual Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale

Big numbers were seen once again at the annual Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale at the Tehama District Fairgrounds in Red Bluff. It’s the largest sale of bulls, horses and livestock dogs west of the Rockies, and is vital to the beef industry in the western states. Bull sales this year totaled $1.6 Million. Bull prices averaged more than $6,100, with one Hereford fetching $16,500. The total for auctioned geldings was more than $1.4 Million. The average price was around $22,000. One Bay Gelding out of Corvallis, Oregon sold for $72,000. That’s a high price for an animal that’s not even going to breed. Then there were the dogs. The auction of 13 stock dogs earned nearly $160,000, with an average price of $12,288. The top dog was from Montague, selling for $50,000. Anything with a western theme was being sold at the 83rd annual event, from handmade saddles and jewelry to furniture and livestock trailers and some pricey fine art.
