Firefighters brought an aggressive response to a fire in Jones Valley Tuesday. The Matthews Fire was burning in thick Oak woodland off Bear Mountain Road. Mandatory evacuations were ordered for some areas that included Encanto Way and Portrero Drive. With the use of hand crews, engine crews, dozers and aircraft, the fire was contained to a little over 31 acres. The fire may have been sparked by someone using a lawn mower in dry grass. 23-year-old Isaiah Francisco Moreno was arrested at Bear Mountain Road and Matthews Lane by Cal Fire and booked into jail for causing a fire.
