CAL FIRE Issues Reminder To Check Smoke Detector Batteries

If you haven’t already changed your clock ahead one hour, you may be wondering why you are an hour behind this morning, as we have made the transition to Daylight Saving Time. CAL FIRE fire wants to remind you its also time to check the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. Working smoke detectors can cut the risk of dying in a home fire by more than half, while carbon monoxide alarms provide critical early warning of an odorless, potentially deadly gas. Most smoke and C02 detectors use standard 9-volt or AA batteries, while some newer models have sealed 10-year batteries that should be tested regularly and replaced when the unit reaches the end of its lifespan. The Spring and Fall time changes are a good time to make sure both are in good working order.
