California State Parks Alleges Alarm System Failed During Bidwell Mansion Fire

California State Parks has filed a lawsuit against the company Advantage Total Protection, which monitored the alarm system at Chico’s Bidwell Mansion, saying its failures delayed the response to a 2024 arson fire that destroyed much of the historic building. The lawsuit, filed Thursday of last week, claims the company failed to properly inspect and test the alarm system when it took over the contract in June 2024. According to the lawsuit, Advantage Total Protection failed to properly monitor the building and did not ensure the alarm system would notify emergency responders during a fire. The agency also claims the company led State Parks to believe the system had been tested and was working correctly. State Parks said it had no reason to believe the alarm system would fail during a fire. State Parks says the alarm system failures meant fire crews and park officials were not notified in time to quickly respond to the fire. The state is seeking $38 Million in damages. Advantage Total Protection is denying any liability related to the allegations.
