Caltrans has run into some complications as they’ve been working to repair an unstable slope next to Highway 299 east of Buckhorn Summit. Crews found more moisture than expected and engineers have re-evaluated their strategy to ensure long-term stability. A fabric material with multiple layers of base rock is being used for a solid foundation to rebuild the embankment, and a permeable rock layer will allow groundwater to drain better. K-rail walls have been installed to keep travelers safe and delays will continue as one-way traffic control will be in effect for an indeterminate time.
