CHP Says Hit-and-Run Driver was Wrong Way, Drunk, and Carrying Illegal Guns

A 23-year-old Cottonwood man was arrested Saturday night after allegedly causing a crash by driving the wrong way on Interstate 5. The CHP says that at 11:14, a 2016 Ford Fusion driven by Logan Shearman was southbound in the northbound lanes a little South of Highway 44 when he came upon a 2023 Kia Sorento driven by 51-year-old Katie Bruner of Klamath Falls. Both drivers swerved and they sideswiped each other. The Kia overturned and came to rest partially in two lanes while the Ford slid into the freeway median. Shearman reportedly fled on foot toward Hilltop Drive. His ID was found in his car and Redding Police found him on the sidewalk near the Holiday Inn, with minor injuries and allegedly drunk. The CHP says they found a short-barreled AR-15 style rifle and a shotgun in the Ford. Bruner had lacerations to her face and hands and the 8-year-old girl riding with her also had minor injuries. Both were transported to Mercy Hospital. Shearman is in jail on $50,000 bail.
