The California Highway Patrol is reiterating something that’s been said over and over- no law enforcement agency would ever make phone calls or text messages demanding payment for a fine. Apparently many texts are being received that threaten arrest or drivers license suspension unless payment is made. Links are provided to make such payments. These messages are a scam known as “phishing” that are designed to steal personal financial information and rip off the victim for far more than the amount of the fake fine. Anyone who receives such a message should contact local law enforcement or the agency referenced in the message.
