Circle 6: City Should Use Staff Attrition To Save On Expenditures

One recommendation by Circle 6 is to let the staffing levels decrease by attrition. As employees retire or move on, many positions will remain vacant and their workload will be distributed among other staffmembers. One high labor expenditure is fire department overtime pay. In the last fiscal year Redding Fire Department paid almost $11 Million in wages, with $4.65 Million of that being overtime. The fire department works on round-the-clock shifts and is not fully staffed.
