A lengthy report prepared for Redding by Circle 6 Consulting recommends that the city position itself as a “Northern California Data Center Hub”. The firm says offering a home to data centers, such as at the Stillwater Business Park, could bring Hundreds of Millions of Dollars of capital investment to the city. The ongoing annual benefit to the city could be 2 to 6 Million Dollars from property taxes and 3 to 10 Million Dollars for utilities. It also would strain the electrical supply and require massive quantities of water. Across the country, and recently in Mount Shasta City, proposals for data centers have been met with loud organized opposition and lawsuits.
