Court Orders Mental Competency Evaluation For Man Arrested After Dangerous High Speed Chase

A domestic violence suspect who reportedly led law enforcement on a high speed chase last month will be evaluated after his defense attorney raised doubts about his competency to face trial. 33-year-old Daniel Levi Keiser was arrested February 5th. A “Be on the Lookout” had been issued earlier in the day for Keiser, who was reported to be armed and had made statements about “Suicide by Cop”. At around 3:30PM a Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted Keiser on Northbound Interstate 5 and pulled him over. After stopping briefly Keiser reportedly fled at over 100 miles an hour into the City of Redding, where the RPD joined the chase. Police say that during the pursuit Keiser drove on the shoulder, ran multiple red lights, drove in the oncoming lanes and several times tried to ram the pursuing officers’ vehicles. The chase ended when Keiser reportedly ran into a tree, then was captured after a brief foot chase. Police say they found multiple guns in the car, including two AR-15 style rifles, two loaded handguns, and several thousand rounds of ammunition. Keiser will return to court March 24th with a report from the court-appointed doctor.
