A fire that started Monday evening near Manton produced a large amount of smoke. It started shortly after 6 O’clock 3 miles north of Highway 36 and west of Paynes Creek. It was reported to be burning at a moderate to dangerous rate of spread with a number of spot fires ahead of the main fire. Monday night firefighters said they had stopped the forward progress at a little over 41 acres with 15% containment.
A fire near Highway 299 and Broken Ridge Road in the Round Mountain area Monday afternoon was stopped at about a half acre.
