Crews Will Install Multi-Use Footpath To Improve Safety In South Redding

Cal-Trans is installing a new multi-use path to make it safer for pedestrians and bicyclists to traverse a stretch of roadway that’s taken a deadly toll over the years. South Market Street passes beneath a railroad trestle south of Wydham Lane and becomes Highway 273, but non-vehicular traffic has had to make the risky route without the benefit of sidewalks or anything separating them from traffic that is often traveling at highway speeds. Cal-Trans will re-stripe the roadway and make it one lane instead of two, allowing space for a dedicated bike and foot lane from Wyndham Lane to Buenaventura. Work is set to begin Sunday and be completed on Monday.
