Crews Work To Contain Hydraulic Oil Spill At Ruth Lake

Officials say Trinity County residents have nothing to worry about following a release of hydraulic oil the Ruth Dam. County officials said they were notified of the oil release at Ruth Dam around 2PM on Wednesday, saying the oil release is affecting portions of Ruth Lake and the Mad River. Trinity County Environmental Health (TCEH) said there is no known risk to the public at this time. The environmental team is actively investigating the incident in coordination with state agencies, including the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Wildlife Office of Spill Prevention and response and North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board. In the meantime, the TCEH expects more hydraulic fluid to be released until repairs are completed next week. They said response teams have proactively deployed containment booms to capture the oil and prevent further spread.
