Crews Working 45 Acre Fire Near French Gulch

A fire started early Monday afternoon near French Gulch off East Fork Road. It was burning up a ridge with short term spotting and evacuations were issued. Retardant lines were dropped by air tankers and at last word it was a little over 45 acres with 5% containment. There are 298 PG&E customers who have lost electricity in the French Gulch area.

A car fire overnight closed Highway 299 near Weaverville for almost 2 hours. A little after Midnight a car hit a deer a little west of Weaver Bally Road. Everyone got out safely before the car caught fire. A CHP Officer tried to slow it down with a fire extinguisher but the flames spread to about a half acre of vegetation. One way traffic control began at around 1:25AM and both lanes were open about a half hour later.

A fire on Pappas Road south of Bowman Road in Cottonwood burned about an acre of thick vegetation.
