Torrential rains caused widespread flooding in Redding Sunday, from Mary Lake to Shasta View and many areas in between. Parts of Shasta View were closed, Hartnell Avenue was closed for several hours at Irwin Lane. Old Oregon Trail was closed from Old Alturas Road to Highway 299. Many roads and residential yards in south Redding became lakes. Highway 273 and South Market were badly flooded and had to be shut down between Buenaventura and Wyndham Lane where the water was several feet deep. It was also closed at the Bonnyview intersection. On Capricorn Street the fire hydrants were underwater. Southbound I-5 came to a standstill and backed up for miles when the freeway flooded in Churn Creek Bottom. There was a lot of damage in other low-lying areas as well, including Stillwater Creek east of Old Oregon Trail. Anyone displaced from their homes can go to the Red Cross shelter at the Pilgrim Congregation Church at 2850 Foothill Boulevard off Eureka Way.
