A wanted man was chased around Southern Shasta County for 20 minutes and 11 miles Monday night, according to the Sheriff’s Office. 52-year-old Steve Gary Dinsmore had warrants for a previous pursuit and elder abuse and he was believed to be carrying a gun. Deputies learned he was in the Cottonwood area and at 9:18PM Monday they spotted him driving a Ford SUV and tried to pull him over near Main and First Streets. He reportedly sped away and was pursued. Spike strips were used on Gas Point Road but three flat tires did not stop the chase, which continued on Interstate 5, Highway 273 and a number of surface streets. Deputies say Dinsmore drove at high speed and ran many stop signs and stop lights. Another set of spike strips was used on Rhonda Road by Walmart, which flattened the final tire. Still, the chase continued until some time later when Dinsmore apparently lost control while turning onto Rhonda Road from Gas Point Road. The SUV slid to a stop in the driveway of a business. Dinsmore was taken into custody without any further resistance. Deputies say they found ammunition and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Dinsmore was booked into jail on $1.1 Million bail with a long list of charges.
