The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is getting harassed by packs of hooligans on electric bicycles. Over the last several months deputies say they’ve seen a spike in reckless driving by young adults and juveniles on the 2-wheeled devices in Shasta Lake City and other residential areas of the county. Groups have been seen in city parks and buildings, causing damage, driving erratically and challenging deputies to chase them, often by waving and making obscene gestures. The resulting pursuits are often reckless and involve driving into oncoming traffic and running stop signs and traffic lights. The Sheriff’s Office is asking parents to speak with their teens about safe riding and the ramifications of failing to observe traffic laws.
