There was a fatal crash in Cottonwood. Just after 11:30 Sunday night a Honda Civic was southbound on Interstate 5 when it crashed into the rear of a big rig at the weigh station and became lodged beneath the trailer. It then caught fire. A bystander doused the flames with a fire extinguisher but equipment had to be brought to the scene to lift the trailer off of the car. The driver of the car was declared dead at the scene. The CHP is investigating.
