A project to clear dangerous boulders from above Highway 299 in Eastern Shasta County will continue next week, causing significant delays for drivers. It’s taking place on the “Pit One Grade” portion of 299 between Burney and Fall River Mills. This phase of the project involves installing permanent rockfall mitigation cabling and drapery systems on the slope above the highway using a helicopter. Monday through Friday delays will be up to 70 minutes beginning at 6:30AM each day. After helicopter operations are done, delays should return to 30 minutes. The helicopter is using the vista point as a landing zone because of work being done at the Fall River Airport.
