Redding City Council Member Michael Dacquisto, who had already announced his early retirement from the council, has stepped down earlier than planned in order to force an election to replace him. With his resignation last Tuesday, that leaves more than half of his 4 year term to be served. Because of that and the fact that it’s more than 130 days before the next election, the seat must appear on the ballot in November. The elected position will be separate from the open 4 year terms on the ballot, which will be filled by other candidates. Tuesday the council will decide on whether to appoint an interim replacement ahead of the election, or to leave it vacant.
