A documented gang member who led Red Bluff Police on a destructive high-speed chase in January has been sentenced after reaching a plea deal. An officer saw a car he knew to be associated with a member of the Surenos and he attempted a traffic stop on Kimball Road at Metzger. 19-year-old Luis Maldonado fled and nearly hit a car head-on while turning onto South Jackson. At the Luther Road intersection Maldonado ran a red light and struck a car. The damage soon disabled Maldonado’s car and he fled on foot until he was apprehended by a K9. The driver and passenger in the car that was hit both suffered moderate injuries. Police say Maldonado was intoxicated and that during the chase he threw away a stolen gun. On another occasion he was pulled over and found to be carrying multiple concealed guns. After pleading guilty to having a concealed firearm in a vehicle and fleeing a peace officer, both felonies, Maldonado has been given a 16 month state prison sentence.
